Sadly another long day Untied made me Unavailable to go to yoga.  This makes me very Unhappy.

Alright, moving past the Un puns and looking at the half-full side of the glass, yoga at home always provides a good alternative. So, that’s what I did today.

I unrolled my mat in front of my bedroom’s window, faced outside, and started doing my practice.

My instructor says at home practice — especially in the a.m. and p.m. — is essential to furthering your growth in the practice. the benefits of doing it when you wake up and before bed are said to help relax you before your day starts and after the hectic day ends. I usually lie in bed until the last minute though, and plomp into my bed exhausted from the day — and not in the mood for some yoga.

Making your home a sacred space though and practicing in the comfort of your own space alone is extremely tranquil. I got more into my breath, my body, and focused. There were no neighboring yogis to distract me or a teacher pushing me to correct my posture.

It was just me. And alone time is always nice since it is such a rarity.

I enjoy sun salutations at home. There are many variations of this, here is a link to one:

1. Start with feet together and arms in prayer position.

2. Bring arms overhead and swoop down to feet.

3. Step one foot back in a lunge. Hold for a second, then step back into plank position.

4. Move into upward dog, hold for a moment, then move into downward dog.

5. Step a foot forward and return to standing with arms up. Do small back bend if you wish.

6. Repeat.

Sun salutations are great to do in the sun, so if possible face a window where the sun is shinining in — or go outdoors — and happy practice!
